Tips for Searching Like a Pro on LinkedIn

Millions of professionals use LinkedIn Search every week to find potential job candidates, content on topics relevant to their industry, people who may be able to help connect them to opportunity, and much more. To help you more easily find the information you need to be more productive and connect you to relevant opportunities, here are some tips and the latest updates on LinkedIn Search:

Same filters, new location

To streamline your search experience, we’ve moved search filters to the top of the search results page. In addition, the most frequently used filters - like location, connection degree, and current companies - are displayed by default to help you narrow your search more effortlessly. If you want to see all of the search filters available, you can now do so on the All filters page, allowing you to filter results by industry, past companies, schools and more.

More relevant results

We’ve also improved the search results page to better guide your search by predicting what you’re looking for – and displaying those results first. For example, if you search for “retail analyst,” the primary results are people who hold this job title, but we’ll also show you open job listings that you can dive into.

Search connections of your connections

With 70% of people being hired at a company where they had a connection, your professional network goes a long way in helping you connect to opportunities. Now think about how helpful your extended network can be in helping you find an “in” to your next job, or the perfect candidate for that open position on your team.

To help you more easily tap into your extended network, check out the Connections of filter. You can access this filter by clicking on All filters on the top of the search page or directly from a connection’s profile page. From there, you can filter even further - for example, search your connections’ connections that work in computer software, are based in Denver or that work at a certain company. If you prefer to keep your connections private, simply change your settings so that only you can see them.
